Tower Bridge is a combined bascule and suspension bridge over the River Thames in London and one of the city’s most famous landmarks. It was built between 1886 and 1894 and designed in the Victorian Gothic style to blend in with the nearby historic appearance of the Tower of London. Its two distinctive towers are connected by two high-level walkways, while the lower roadway consists of two movable bascules that can be raised to allow ships to pass. With its characteristic blue and grey steel structure and stone-clad towers, Tower Bridge remains a functioning bridge to this day and is also one of London’s most photographed structures.
